At the 20th Annual Napa Pain Conference pre-conference meeting, Kathy Clagg, RN, gave a fascinating presentation entitled, “Targeted Drug Delivery 1: Start Low and Go Slow.” Throughout her presentation, she gave a great body of information relating to treating chronic pain patients. Ms. Clagg began her career in 1991 and currently works with Dr. David Caraway; hence, she has been working with pioneers of interventional pain management for many years. She presented a lot of useful information on dosing, good practices for training, and patient controlled analgesia. She discussed clinical uses of intermittent bolus dosing and that recent data demonstrating patient satisfaction in conjunction with decreasing oral opioids. Many in attendance, including myself, appreciated her perspective.
